It is with great pleasure that we extend an invitation for the 9th National Conference of the Polish Society of Environmental Medicine, which will be held from 18 to 20 September, 2009 in Wrocław.

The conference of the Polish Society of Environmental Medicine provides a platform for interdisciplinary discussions on a wide range of topics related to the environment and its impacts on human health.

This year we would like to highlight an issue of climate change and human health. Two global events - the UN summit on climate change in Poznan (COP-14) in December 2008, and the upcoming UN climate summit in Copenhagen (COP-15) in December 2009 set an appropriate timeframe to address this emerging challenge for public and environmental health.

Therefore, we would like to invite you in particular to share professional experiences related to climate change and its impacts on the environment and human health, well-being and quality of life. You are also welcome to present work from the practice of environmental medicine, as well as studies on ‘traditional’ environmental hazards - chemical, physical and biological factors. Of interest are also studies on socio-economic and cultural conditions conductive for health and quality of life; interdisciplinary cooperation and a role of civil society in creating supportive environments; children’s environmental health; local, national and international programs of action.

We expect several invited speakers from Poland and from abroad, who will present recent developments in the climate change and health debate and national experiences in environmental health/environmental medicine, also in the context of climate change.

You are cordially welcome to participate in the conference in a beautiful city of Wrocław.

Professor Krystyna Pawlas

President of the Polish Society of Environmental Medicine
